20 years since the Spanish Steps
Once, a little girl in a communist country was watching a major event in Rome with her mother. The Spanish Steps, with the world's greatest fashion houses holding their show, were the center of attention. Extraordinary fashion, excitement, and beautifully dressed people. Stars lined the front rows. Her mother sat next to her, her eyes wide open like a cat's. She said aloud... how beautiful! It was an unattainable dream to be in such a place... sigh. The girl, her face smeared with freckles and dreams, adjusted her red ponytail atop her head and replied to her mother: "And I'll be there! I'll have my own show there someday and sit in the front row." Many years passed, communism fell, with the symbolic demolition of the Berlin Wall. So what? Will we be able to continue on like the GDR now? Anything will be possible now, and it all depends on the strength of our dreams and the will to make them come true. The girl was already a girl, and she worked hard every day for her dreams. Step by step, she did everything to be the best. When the Italians noticed her and invited her to a meeting, she had no idea it was about those stairs! She had no connections, no sponsor, no connections. She grew up in the countryside and decided to spend her adult life in the countryside and establish a renowned fashion house there. A fashion house in the countryside??? Half of Poland was laughing, and Italians admired the designs from the pristine, green forests. They were delighted that someone was creating beyond the spotlight, beyond the reach of stars and fashion catechisms. When I sat in the front row in front of the famous Spanish Steps in 2003, I couldn't believe that childhood spell, "I'll be there!", had worked so effectively. Next to me was Roberto Cavalli himself, and the next day, a four-minute report on the main news program Rai 1 and Rai 2, proclaiming that a Polish woman was conquering the world, "a new talent in global fashion has been born." My show was heralded throughout the entire event as the best, the finale. I had no idea it was me. I waited for my turn, which never came, and suddenly it's here! Grande finale! Ewa Minge! You have to dream, but you also have to work very hard and believe in yourself, even if no one else in the world believes in you anymore. Trust yourself and fight until you have to, for your own life... for your dreams.
